It’s that time of year when people are completely frustrated with their jobs and start looking around. Most will hang on till January so their December bonuses can get paid. If you are one of those people that’s decided to make a move, have you considered the type of company you would be a good fit for? Two articles you need to read :
Big company or start up – which is the best option for you?
Small companies vs large companies: which should you work for?
I would just add to that – please think very very carefully before applying at a small business. Your skills and contribution will become crucial in a very short period of time, and if you suddenly leave because you’ve made the wrong decision; it can have a very negative effect on that little business.
Hiring people is a very scary thing for small business owners – so much can go wrong. So if you are chosen to be part of that team, it’s actually a massive compliment to you.
Know yourself and understand your financial habits and requirements. It takes a special type of person to work in small businesses and not everyone can cut it.
While there are pros and cons to both big and small companies; as someone who’s worked in huge corporates her whole life and now running a small business – I can tell you that there is nothing quite like it in the world. If you have what it takes, it will be the most rewarding experience you can imagine.
Happy hunting.
