SharePoint A-Z : Q is for Quick Edit

A super handy feature in lists and libraries that lets you do what it says – edit things quickly. It used to be called ‘Edit in Gridview’.

You can change any of the values in your columns, or update document names from here. If this was a list, you could also copy and paste data from Excel into the rows.

HOT TIP

Make sure the formatting of the data in Excel is the same as the format of the columns in SharePoint or it will scream at you. I find it’s easier to clean the data in Excel first, then paste it in. But there are lots of bulk edits we do on document level too, especially when migrating and moving documents around.

If you add incorrect data, it will be flagged with an exclamation mark. Click it see where the problem is. Resolve the issue so that the rest of the edits can continue. It won’t let you leave the row till it’s fixed.

Click Exit Grid View when done.
