Want to turn your modern team site into a one-page communication site look and feel? You need to lose the Quick Launch then.

Easy peasy – click on Settings > Site Information > View All Site Settings.

Click on Navigation Elements.

Then untick Enable Quick Launch and save. (PS : Please don’t ever use Tree View, like ever, ew).

Done, go back to you home page and see the results.

If you want the top navigation to display too, turn it into a hub site.
Yeah this idea just hid the quick launch but left that awkward off center layout. Msft finally fixed it though (after 6 years!) – now under change the look > navigation you can select a horizontal nav to replicate the comms site layout. Beats adding a custom stylesheet which is what I was doing.

Communication sites still allow SharePoint group targeting. Unfortunately, I create a Team site that has no MS365 team assigned. You can display a list on a team site page as tiles, and those tiles (items) can be hidden based on assignment to a SharePoint group.

You’d be right, that’s about all. The ability to audience target with SharePoint groups seems to have been lost to us indefinitely at this point. It’s extremely annoying because it’s something we used daily. We simply do not need Microsoft 365 group connected sites for everything. It’s a huge blunder on Microsoft’s part if you ask me.

It’s not clear to me that this does anything more than hide the Quick Launch. Does it restore the capability to use SharePoint Groups to control audience? You cannot use them on a modern team site.

Hi Kalyani, not yet hey. It drives me mad too.

Is there any solution for using full-width webpart in the modern team site?

Hi Francois.
Haha, yes, trust them to leave the old bits still in, (and thank goodness half the time!). No, the full width thing doesn’t come up, but it’s close enough for people who can’t do it any other way right now.

Nice to see old classic tricks like Site Navigation (never use Tree view indeed 😆) still do the trick in that context.
Since it’s a “hack”, I am guessing that the Full-Width section will not be available though?
