Did I just LOVE it?  No.  Did I hate it?  No.  It was just ok.  Best part – catching up with old friends and meeting new Twitter and conference friends.  Someone had it right, it was a giant reunion party with a SharePoint theme.

  5. Yeah, the flights were by far the highest expense, R50 000! Then conference entrance, hotel fees and spending money. It adds up quick. And at 52 hours of flying time, yes I went business class. 🙂

  6. Just did the calculation and noticed that 80k Rand is much higher than I thought. Were your flights the highest individual item? I remember that you flew business class (having flown economy to TEC2011, more than 20 hours each way, I totally understand)

    Depending on exchange rate, I was so far thinking of a budget of 4,000 – 5,000 USD for next year’s conference (more likely 5k, as I didn’t think of any misc expenses, and got only 1 flight price so far)

  11. You would think so hey, alas not. Someone said “don’t worry, it will be better next year”. Yes well that’s little consolation for the 7500 people who forked out thousands of dollars This year. EVERY year should be brilliant at the price. I am loathe to say it, but the hype did not match the experience.

  12. I would have expected it to be really good in terms of quality. My plan is to attend the one next year in Vegas, that’s why I’m currently reading all kinds of blog entries to hear about the good and the bad things.

    Not worth staying, so bad, did not meet my expectations, topic focus different to what the session title was. Was not amused at the level of presenting. I was expecting the best of the best – this is the Microsoft SharePoint Conference after all. Didn’t get that, not even close. I wasn’t the only one, not by a long shot. It’s very sad.

  15. You mean that out of the sessions you started to attend, 10 weren’t worth staying? Was it so bad, or just didn’t meet your expectations? Or topic focus different from what you thought?
